My design process
-
The creative process is a journey that transforms abstract ideas into tangible outcomes. Whether i’m designing a logo, crafting a marketing campaign, or developing a new product, understanding the phases of the creative process can help streamline efforts and enhance results.
-
Before I start designing, I go through a Discovery phase to ensure my work aligns with the client’s needs. This means asking the right questions: What are their goals? How do they measure success? Who is their target audience?
I also research their industry, competitors, and design preferences to create something relevant and effective. Assumptions don’t work I ask.
Next, I define the project scope: deliverables, timeline, revision rounds, and payment terms. Clear expectations prevent surprises and keep the process smooth. A solid Discovery phase makes for better designs and a more efficient workflow.
-
After Discovery, I dive into concept creation. This is where ideas take shape. I use mood boards to define the project’s visual direction and ensure it aligns with the client’s vision.
To generate fresh ideas, I explore different creative techniques:
Visual association – Linking themes
Literal design – A straightforward approach, like a tooth in a dentist’s logo.
Symbolism & metaphors – Using icons or unexpected comparisons to communicate meaning.
Color association – Leveraging color psychology while considering cultural context.
Collage – Mixing materials and images for a layered aesthetic.
This phase is all about exploration. The best ideas come from pushing creative boundaries and testing different directions before refining the final concept.
-
Before execution, I define my creative approach. This phase ensures my design is intentional and aligned with the project’s goals. Key considerations include:
Design attributes – Should it be bold, minimal, playful, or sophisticated?
Stylistic technique – Will it be illustrated, 3D, geometric, or something else?
Color palette – Stick to brand colors or create a new scheme to set the right tone?
Execution approach – Will I mix photography with illustration or explore other combinations?
By clarifying these elements upfront, I create a strong foundation that streamlines the design process and leads to more effective results.
